View Past IssuesGradiant, an industrial grade solution provider in the context of water solutions, has recently launched a fully owned subsidiary firm for handling Oilfield services. Named Gradiant Energy Services (GES), with this new company, Gradiant hopes to introduce new and innovative energy efficient practices into the water recycling practices in the Oilfield sector.
With environmental concerns and a huge amount of carbon footprint being left on the planet by big scale industries, it was the time for dedicated areas. Gradiant has risen to the challenge.
Gradiant has received numerous awards in the water treatment industry concerning the several indigenous solutions and practices it has introduced in the industrial sector. The formation of GES is a logical step forward. Gradiant hopes for GES to be yet another groundbreaking venture promoting environmental-friendly water recycling practices in the oil and gas industry.
Formed by a few members from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Gradiant has already been highly successful in the past three years of operation. In fact, their industrial grade solutions have now been adopted for use in the Marcellus Shale and the Permian Basin.
In the industry sector, not much thought is put into recycled water. GES intends to change this with the help of several innovative practices which include:
• Treatment of water for bacteria
• Desalination to provide fresh water
• Clean brine recycling
• Evaporative Brine Concentration
With their proprietary technologies, industrial operators can reduce both energy consumption and chemical usage for the water treatment to levels lower than currently prevailing methods. Besides significant cost reduction, this will allow for less environmental effects and better disposal and reuse of water through Gradiant’s self-developed processes, including Free Radical Disinfection (FRD), Carrier Gas Extraction (CGE) and Selective Chemical Extraction (SCE).
Gradiant already has four major recycling ventures under its wings, each of which is a 10,000 BPD build-own-operate recycling projects. In addition to this, GES will be spearheading several more projects in the Permian Basin and the Marcellus Shale due to be launched in 2016. This includes:
Permian Basin Projects
1.5 million barrel storage disinfection pit system
Several real-time disinfection systems capable of processing 100 barrels per minute
Clean brine recycling facility capable of handling 10,000 barrels per day (BPD)
Marcellus Shale Project
Brine concentration system capable of 500 BPD through Carrier Gas Extraction (CGE)
According to Anurag Bajpayee, the Chief Executive Officer and the co-founder of Gradiant, “The creation of Gradiant Energy Services represents a significant milestone for our company. We have brought our technologies to an entirely commercial level of maturity, which is also indicated by the increasing customer adoption and confidence. Creating an energy-focused subsidiary lets our thriving oilfield services business continue on its growth trajectory while allowing the technology team to focus on continued innovation, commercialization, and international partnerships to benefit our work across multiple industries and regions”.
Gradiant is a customised solution provider of new technologies across the globe related to water treatment and processing in various industrial sectors including mining, power production, textiles and high output brine desalination facilities. Their primary focus is cost reduction and increased safety and reliability of operation while lessening the environmental impact of the whole process. It was founded in 2012 by a bunch of engineers from MIT working for a global cause. They are currently based in their headquarters in Boston, Mass.
