Seafaring Transformation: Chief Mi’sel Joe Joins World Energy GH2 and Horizon Maritime

Embracing Wisdom and Experience

World Energy GH2 and Horizon Maritime are thrilled to announce the appointment of Chief Mi’sel Joe, a respected Indigenous leader, as their Strategic Advisor and Director. Chief Joe brings a wealth of experience and insights, having retired earlier this year as the administrative chief of Miawpukek First Nation, and continues to serve as Saqamaw (traditional chief).

A Transformative Partnership

Chief Joe will assume the role of Director on the board of Horizon Maritime and will join World Energy GH2’s senior leadership team. His primary focus will be to support Indigenous, government, and community relations for Project Nujio’qonik, a crucial undertaking for both companies.

Sean Leet, Managing Director & CEO of World Energy GH2 and Board Chair at Horizon Maritime, expressed gratitude for the collaboration with Chief Joe. Leet mentioned, “As the journey developing our diverse marine industry business together reaches a transformative moment, all who are involved with Project Nujio’qonik will also benefit greatly from Chief Joe’s wisdom and experience.”

A Vision for Economic Reconciliation

Chief Mi’sel Joe expressed pride in the marine business created in collaboration with the companies and emphasized his passion for truth and reconciliation, particularly economic reconciliation for Mi’kmaq people in Newfoundland and Labrador. He is eager to contribute to the growth of these Newfoundland and Labrador-based companies and play a pivotal role in steering Project Nujio’qonik toward success.

Building Economic Bridges

John Risley, Partner and Director in Horizon Maritime and World Energy GH2, highlighted the long-standing friendship and collaboration with Chief Joe. Risley mentioned, “I am so pleased to be witnessing the economic transformation of the Miawpukek First Nation that began under Chief Joe’s leadership and look forward to his further involvement in our companies.”
