The drive towards a sustainable and prosperous future in Canada is accelerating with the advent of zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) infrastructure funding. As the world grapples with the impacts of climate change, the importance of reliable and extensive charging infrastructure cannot be overstated. This is a crucial step in enabling Canadians to make the switch to ZEVs, aligning with the ambitious national target of ensuring 100% of new passenger vehicle sales are ZEVs by 2035.

Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP)

One of the pivotal initiatives supporting this transition is the Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP), spearheaded by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). This program is currently open for applications, inviting proposals aimed at deploying electric vehicle (EV) chargers across various locations:

Public Places: Facilitating EV charging access in locations frequented by the general public, ensuring that charging stations are conveniently located and easily accessible.

On-Street: Supporting the installation of chargers on public streets, making EV charging as ubiquitous as traditional fueling stations.

Multi-Unit Residential Buildings: Addressing the needs of residents in multi-unit buildings, where access to personal charging infrastructure may be limited.

Workplaces: Encouraging workplaces to install charging stations, promoting EV adoption among employees and reducing greenhouse gas emissions during commutes.

Vehicle Fleets: Enabling fleet operators to transition to ZEVs by providing the necessary charging infrastructure to support their operations.

NRCan’s annual, time-limited request for proposals is a call to action for communities, businesses, and organizations to contribute to Canada’s ZEV infrastructure network, playing a significant role in the nation’s sustainability efforts.

Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) Projects

In addition to ZEVIP, the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) is also playing a crucial role in the development of ZEV infrastructure. The CIB is now open for applications, offering financing for large-scale ZEV charging and hydrogen refuelling infrastructure projects. These projects are typically delivered by the private sector and are designed to be revenue-generating while serving the public interest.

The CIB’s support is aimed at fostering innovative and scalable solutions that can meet the growing demand for ZEV infrastructure. By financing these projects, the CIB is helping to ensure that the necessary infrastructure is in place to support the widespread adoption of ZEVs, furthering Canada’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to a low-carbon economy.

The availability of funding for ZEV infrastructure is a significant milestone in Canada’s journey towards sustainability. By supporting the deployment of reliable and extensive charging infrastructure, both the Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program and the Canada Infrastructure Bank are playing pivotal roles in facilitating the transition to ZEVs. This not only helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also paves the way for a cleaner, greener future for all Canadians.

As the nation marches towards the ambitious target of 100% ZEV sales by 2035, the importance of robust and widespread ZEV infrastructure cannot be overstated. With the support of these funding programs, communities across Canada are well-positioned to accelerate their transition towards a sustainable and prosperous future, leading the way in the global fight against climate change.

In a world increasingly familiar with environmental slogans and campaigns, the “Amazon Desert Rally” stands out—not for its spectacle, but for its poignant plea to the global community: “Don’t sponsor this race.” Launched by the Stock Car Pro Series, this initiative transcends traditional racing thrills to spotlight an environmental crisis unfolding in real time. In 2023, the Amazon Basin saw a staggering loss of 130 million liters of water, a grim precursor to what might become a frequent reality.

The Inconvenient Truth of the Amazon’s Woes

As the heart of the world’s largest rainforest beats under stress, the effects ripple far beyond its verdant borders. Droughts do not merely lower water levels; they disrupt entire ecosystems. Fishing communities find their livelihoods at risk with stranded rafts and canoes. Meanwhile, Roraima, a state in northern Brazil, has become an epicenter for wildfires, further degrading a biome crucial to global ecological health.

According to a distressing study in Nature, nearly half of the Amazon could undergo irreversible degradation by 2050 if current deforestation and climate patterns hold. The “Amazon Desert Rally” seeks to broadcast these critical findings through a lens that is both innovative and heartbreaking.

Indigenous Voices Lead the Charge

At the forefront of the “Amazon Desert Rally” are the Indigenous peoples, the ancestral stewards of the Amazon. The promotional materials and a poignant launch film reveal the preparation of an Indigenous team, adept in navigating not just their traditional territories but also steering 4×4 vehicles across what were once riverbeds, now stretches of sand and stone. Their message is clear: they race not for glory, but to prevent the race from ever occurring, to preserve the legacy and life of the Amazon.

The ‘Don’t Sponsor This Race’ Philosophy

Fernando Julianelli, CEO of Vicar, elaborates on the project’s ethos, urging global citizens to reconsider their consumer habits. By highlighting the connection between everyday products and the resources of the Amazon, Julianelli emphasizes the role of responsible consumption in forest conservation. This project isn’t just about reducing carbon footprints—it’s a broader call to action against the exploitation of critical natural resources.

Echoing a Global Challenge

Almir Surui, the president of the Paiter Surui territory and a UN-recognized Forest Hero, succinctly puts the stakes: “Without water and without forest, humans won’t have the health to rally.” His statement is a sobering reminder of the intrinsic link between environmental health and human survival.

Senior researcher Paulo Moutinho from the Amazon Environmental Research Institute (IPAM) adds, “A rally always reminds us of an adventure, where nature should be the protagonist. Without forests or flowing rivers, the coldness of steel will be our destiny, and that of those who come.”

The Bleak Statistics of Deforestation

New data from states like Acre, Amazonas, Rondônia, and Roraima reveals a troubling picture: 142,000 hectares of illegal deforestation were recorded recently, equating to an area as large as São Paulo being cleared in just one year. These numbers not only quantify the loss but also underscore the urgent need for action and awareness.

A Call to Preservation, Not Participation

The “Amazon Desert Rally” is a paradoxical concept—a race that should not exist, highlighting a future we must prevent. It stands as a testament to the creativity and desperation of those fighting for Amazon’s future. It challenges us to act, to rethink, and to join in safeguarding a treasure that belongs not only to Brazil but to the world.

Solar-powered vehicles are gaining popularity for their potential to reduce carbon emissions and help fight climate change. One such vehicle that has caught the attention of many is the solar camper created by Solar Team Eindhoven. This camper is designed to offer a sustainable and comfortable way to travel while reducing our carbon footprint.

The solar camper is the brainchild of Solar Team Eindhoven, a group of students from the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. The team aims to promote sustainable living and raise awareness about the importance of renewable energy sources.

The solar camper is built with a sleek and modern design that is both functional and visually appealing. The vehicle is powered entirely by solar energy, which is generated by the solar panels installed on the roof. The solar panels are integrated seamlessly into the camper’s design and can generate up to 3,000 watts of electricity. This energy is stored in a high-capacity battery, which allows the camper to travel up to 730 kilometers on a single charge.

One of the most notable features of the solar camper is its versatility. The vehicle can be used for a variety of purposes, such as a mobile office, a camping vehicle, or even as a temporary living space. The camper can accommodate up to four people and has all the amenities needed for a comfortable and convenient trip. It includes a kitchen with a sink, a refrigerator, a gas stove, and a dining table. The sleeping area can be converted into a seating area during the day, providing ample space for work or relaxation.

The solar camper is also equipped with smart features that enhance the user’s experience. It has a touchscreen dashboard that provides information about the vehicle’s battery life, energy consumption, and solar panel performance. The camper also has an app that allows users to control the lighting and temperature remotely. Additionally, the vehicle has a GPS system and a rearview camera, which makes it easier to navigate and park.

The solar camper offers numerous benefits for those who are looking for a sustainable and convenient way to travel. One of the most significant advantages is the reduced carbon footprint. By relying solely on solar energy, the vehicle produces zero emissions and helps to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. This makes it an ideal option for eco-conscious travelers who want to minimize their impact on the environment.

The future is here! The long-awaited flying car has finally arrived and it’s certified to fly. The Klein Vision AirCar has received the Certificate of Airworthiness from the Slovak Transport […]

The future is here! The long-awaited flying car has finally arrived and it’s certified to fly. The Klein Vision AirCar has received the Certificate of Airworthiness from the Slovak Transport Authority after completing 70 hours of rigorous flight testing. This dual-mode car-aircraft vehicle has been designed to change the way we travel forever.

The AirCar is the brainchild of Professor Stefan Klein, the leader of the development team and the test pilot. According to Klein, “AirCar certification opens the door for mass production of very efficient flying cars. It is official and the final confirmation of our ability to change mid-distance travel forever.” With this certification, AirCar is ready to take on the skies and the roads, offering a new dimension to transportation.

The AirCar has been tested under the most challenging conditions and has shown astonishing stability in aircraft mode. The takeoff and landing procedures were achieved without the pilot touching the flight controls. This demonstrates the level of automation and ease of use that AirCar offers.

10 unique features and applications of the Klein Vision AirCar:

Dual-mode vehicle: The AirCar is a dual-mode car-aircraft vehicle, which means it can be driven on roads like a regular car and flown in the air like a small aircraft.

Airworthiness certification: AirCar has been issued an official Certificate of Airworthiness by the Slovak Transport Authority, after completing 70 hours of rigorous flight testing.

Automated transformation: The AirCar features an automated transformation system that deploys and retracts the wings and tail for the transition between road vehicle and air vehicle modes.

Impressive stability: The AirCar has demonstrated astonishing static and dynamic stability in aircraft mode during flight testing, making it a reliable and safe flying car.

Mass production potential: The AirCar certification opens the door for the mass production of efficient flying cars, which could revolutionize mid-distance travel.

The development of the AirCar was a mammoth task, taking a team of eight highly skilled specialists and over 100,000 man-hours to convert design drawings into mathematical models with CFD analysis calculations, wind tunnel testing, and a 1:1 design prototype powered by an electric 15KW engine to a 1000kg 2-seat dual-mode prototype powered by a 1.6L BMW engine that achieved the crucial certification milestone.

Klein Vision has already completed tests of a new powerful, lightweight, and efficient ADEPT Airmotive aviation engine and finalized drawings and technical calculations for the upcoming monocoque model with a variable pitch propeller expected to reach speeds over 300km/h and a range of 1,000km. This means that AirCar is expected to get even better, faster, and more efficient in the future.

AirCar defines a new category of sports cars and reliable aircraft. Its certification was both challenging and fascinating, as Rene Molnar, the director of the Civil Aviation Division (Transport Authority of Slovakia), explains, “AirCar combines top innovations with safety measures in line with EASA standards.”

The AirCar’s ability to seamlessly transition from a road vehicle into an air vehicle and vice versa is an engineering marvel, says Dr. Branko Sarh, Boeing Co. Senior Technical Fellow. “It is not only the result of pioneering enthusiasm, innovative spirit, and courage; it is an outcome of excellent engineering and professional knowledge.”

The AirCar is an exciting and innovative project, and its ecologically compliant engines have been selected from ADEPT Airmotive.

The Klein Vision AirCar is a game-changer that offers the ultimate freedom of movement. It is an innovative, reliable, and safe mode of transportation that combines the best of both worlds – the road and the sky. With its certification, AirCar is ready to take on the world, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for this exciting project.

It really is one of the greatest feelings in the world to be acknowledged by your peers….which is exactly what happened today at the @EnergyNL breakfast awards. I can’t believe I’ve been in the energy business for 32 years now…it truly has been an honour. And I’m not going anywhere yet, we may have flatlined during Covid19, reduced to zero….but even so, in many regards I feel like I’m just getting started.

The good news is… The OGM is the OFFICIAL magazine for Canada’s top 4 Hydrogen & Renewable conferences this year!!! Boom – how to make a come back.

Bring on the energy – mind, body, spirit, community, industry.. It’s all about energy. Energy to matter, matter to energy…it’s all right here in our hands to create a sustainable new energy future…and the only way we are going to do that is to be ENERGIZED ourselves. Energy is an inside game. You generate energy and the world flows from there.

Way to go to all the people who got awards today because there’s nothing harder than surviving and thriving 30+ years in business in Newfoundland. It takes being a WARRIOR, a super strong conviction…and a willness to take on yourself and all the tough challenges and turn them into opportunities and contributions.
May the next 30 years of energy be even more exciting as we see new eVOL planes in our skies, new AI systems taking care of all the mundane jobs, a globalization of our economies and an entirely new techonolgically advanced society.

I’m so proud to now be an elder. I’ll be 60 this year….and every wrinkle has a story of hardship transformed to grace and contribution to others. In my view…that’s the best we really have.
If you have a legacy story to tell in TheOGM.com I want to hear from you because any company over 30 years old, deserves a world of recognition and I’d love to tell your story.

Over and out!
Tina Olivero

31.01.2023 In motor racing, all-electric powertrains are no longer a novelty. In response to the growing demand for highly efficient and powerful batteries, the engineers at hofer powertrain, a technology […]

31.01.2023

In motor racing, all-electric powertrains are no longer a novelty. In response to the growing demand for highly efficient and powerful batteries, the engineers at hofer powertrain, a technology and engineering partner of the automotive world, developed a pioneering battery technology equipped with extremely safe high-power battery cells that promise to charge currents of up to 3.75 MW. What began as a research and development project “BlueFire” in 2019 is a groundbreaking new megawatt-class innovation with FlashCharge speeds for sprint and endurance e-motorsport.

The hofer powertrain battery team developed a fully functional high-voltage battery using a market-leading BMS system and fast-charging CCS DC wall box available on the market at the time. The initial proof of concept involved installing it in a racing kart and subjecting it to a series of complex tests under load and with real road resistance, which significantly exceeded expectations. By simulating various driving situations with the high-voltage charging system, it was possible to determine the battery’s and system’s functionalities as well as the overall performance within the powertrain system, where all measurements confirmed the groundbreaking charging curve. The hofer powertrain BlueFire battery demonstrated extremely high cycle stability. In less than 90 seconds, the battery could be recharged successfully from 5-85% S0C. The LTO cells used for this purpose have proven to be particularly suitable for applications that require fast charging and discharging with high charging currents and have opened new possibilities for the future.

During this initial pilot project in pre-development, it became apparent that the new battery is ideal for 24-hour endurance races that rely on extremely short charging times. In addition, it can be variably scaled to fit different applications.

In the meantime, initial discussions with interested parties and investors have started with excellent responses. The engineers are currently focusing on increasing the already very high energy density in the cells of the BlueFire battery considerably while at the same time reducing the weight of these cells.

“In endurance races, the ultimate aim is to shorten charging times during pit stops so that the sports cars return to the circuit in no time. Exactly that happens when the necessary charging energy is transferred to the BlueFire battery using the megawatt charging system and appropriate MCS connector systems. This integrated system makes purely electric endurance races, such as an LMDe race series, into a spectacular and emotional experience, comparable to the new LMDh race series today,” says Gerold Sluka, a senior battery expert at hofer powertrain.

About hofer powertrain

hofer powertrain is a system supplier, engineering, and technology partner for efficient powertrain solutions covering all classes of electrified vehicles. The company’s primary goal is to increase the efficiency of e-mobility with future-oriented solutions. This goal is achieved through a unique, in-depth knowledge of the complete powertrain system, including software, functions, and vehicle integration from pre-development to SOP and beyond. This holistic powertrain expertise is represented worldwide by expert teams in Europe, Asia, and the United States.

Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, participated in the Major Economies Forum (MEF) on Energy and Climate, chaired by the U.S., to advance collective action on climate change. During the meeting, Canada […]

Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, participated in the Major Economies Forum (MEF) on Energy and Climate, chaired by the U.S., to advance collective action on climate change. During the meeting, Canada endorsed new initiatives to cut pollution, while creating jobs and growing the economy, and called on major economies to strengthen or adopt pollution pricing.

The Forum, hosted by the President of the United States, Joe Biden, focused on garnering support from the major economies of the world in five key areas: accelerating sales of zero-emission vehicles, reducing methane emissions from oil and gas, supporting clean energy technology demonstration projects, greening international shipping, and strengthening food security.

One of the best ways to cut pollution – while helping people save money and enhancing energy security – is getting more zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) on the road. At the MEF, Canada helped to advance a collective 2030 zero-emission vehicle goal that ZEVs should make up at least half of passenger vehicle sales by 2030. Canada’s own goal surpasses this target and aims to ensure that at least 20 per cent of new light-duty vehicles offered for sale will be ZEVs by 2026, at least 60 per cent by 2030, and 100 per cent by 2035.

As part of Canada’s $5.3 billion climate finance commitment, Prime Minister Trudeau announced that Canada will provide $2 million over the next four years, starting this year, to fund methane mitigation projects in developing countries. Canada is also leading the way on reducing methane emissions from oil and gas – a critical climate solution. Canada was one of the first countries to publish national-level regulations targeting methane emissions from the oil and gas sector and was the first country to commit to reducing methane emissions from oil and gas by at least 75 per cent by 2030.

In addition to these initiatives, Prime Minister Trudeau called all countries to implement pollution pricing, which in Canada is reducing emissions while making life more affordable for families. As part of the Global Carbon Pricing Challenge, Canada continues to mobilize support around the goal of covering 60 per cent of global emissions by a price on carbon pollution by 2030.

“Canadians have been clear about what they want: clean air, a healthy environment, and a strong economy. We look forward to working with the U.S. and the international community in the lead up to the COP27 summit to continue to deliver on these important priorities and a better future for everyone. We’ve all committed to climate action. This is the time to deliver on those promises,” said The Rt. Hon. Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada.

July 26th, 2019

On its first anniversary following new ownership at Sentinel Systems the long established commercial vehicle safety company has launched a brand new image and identity.

With distinctive colours of orange and black the new logo style carries the strapline ‘Specialists in Vehicle Safety’ reflecting the changing direction of the company which pioneered commercial vehicle reversing safety systems in 1986.

Sentinel MD, John Little explains, “Whilst the company still offers reversing systems, these are greatly enhanced from the early days and now use radar or ultrasonic sensor technology. But today the most popular products are camera and recording systems so we wanted our new identity to show that our real focus is on overall vehicle safety.”

Demand for Sentinel Systems products continues apace with the company increasing its staffing by 25% through the recruitment of additional service engineers, procurement and management staff.

The lifeblood of any company is innovation and it is this which will underpin future growth at Sentinel Systems. It’s the development of telematics – the integration of telecomms and data – for vehicle operator end users that Sentinel is very much involved with. Here it is expanding its fleet management software for enhancement of encrypted data analytics and offer host companies video footage in the cloud. This will mean that Sentinel can warn and interact with its customers giving them a ‘Live View’ at all times.

Sentinel Systems’ hosting is now on cloud based Microsoft Azure, giving evidence of live video, with instant uploads available to review on the platform at any time.

John Little comments, “These are all very exciting developments designed to give our customers much greater control of information from vehicle camera systems. We are also trialing a new camera tracking platform shared by Sentinel and a vehicle operator which gives faster integration of information – we would be delighted to hear from any tracker companies who would also like to integrate with us.”

Other developments underway at Sentinel are enhancements of its award-winning Bike Hotspot system. Here an audible warning, heard by cyclist and driver, overlays onto the monitor illustrating to the driver which sensor has produced the warning and how far away the cyclist is from the vehicle.

For Sentinel Systems, growth and development won’t stop at road vehicle operators. Plans are afoot to explore and expand opportunities for its safety systems in industrial plant areas, such as forklifts, mining and quarrying vehicles.

Sentinel prides itself in its customer service and high quality products, which has led to an exceptional number of returning customers who opt to install its products on new fleet additions. The company works closely with each of its customers to determine the right safety solution for the vehicles, taking into consideration the daily challenges faced by the drivers. Sentinel develops and improves on its products to meet the current demands of fleet operations, especially as more cyclists, pedestrians and smaller vehicle drivers are taking to the roads.

As one of the leaders in commercial vehicle safety and camera solutions, Sentinel Systems has over 30 years of experience in creating and supplying safety systems to leading companies in many sectors, including the major logistic fleets, supermarkets, refuse disposal, bulk tankers, courier vans, buses, trailer builders and motorised caravan manufacturers.

The company’s most popular products include its Bike Hotspot system, designed to detect cyclists riding up the nearside of commercial vehicles, which won innovation awards on its launch; its 360° SurroundView camera solutions; and radar and ultrasonic derivatives of its patented Safetystop TM reversing systems, which are offered with autobraking or LED alerter options.

Sentinel Systems also offers a breadth of camera and recording solutions which are proving to be increasingly popular in combatting vehicle fraud and crash-for-cash claims, as well as helping operators with driver training and, most important of all, helping them protect vulnerable road users.

Their solutions range from standard reversing cameras with in-cab monitors through to sophisticated multi-camera systems. All are available with up to 50 days’ recording, combining high-resolution images with intuitive video analysis software and the opportunity to monitor vehicle operations remotely.

It is Sentinel’s aim to help eliminate risks associated with large vehicles operating in congested areas. To further this, Sentinel is an associate member of FORS (The Fleet Operators Recognition Scheme) which aims to achieve best practice amongst fleet operators. Sentinel offers vehicle safety equipment to meet bronze, silver and gold standards. The company also offers maintenance and emergency servicing for all its customers, so that no matter what the product or who supplied it, the company will send out an engineer to fix the problem.

OK Tire has announced plans to upgrade and relocate their Newfoundland distribution centre from the town of Clarenville to Mount Pearl. The move is part of their $100 million-dollar Canada-wide expansion plan over the next five years.

“The move to Mount Pearl from Clarenville, Newfoundland will allow for a more streamlined distribution strategy with a better assortment to become more aligned with market demands,” says Mike Rutherford, COO of OK Tire. “The site is conveniently located in the industrial area and will provide key access to trucking and transportation options as well as major highway access, providing an enhanced dealer service model”.

The new Mount Pearl centre will span 16,000 square feet, and is better-located to meet the needs of the dealers and customers in the area.

“At the heart of this project is a need to better serve our dealers and, by extension, our customers,” says Jim Caldwell, President & CEO OK Tire Stores Inc. “With an increase of approximately 30 dealers per year, our distribution centres need to effectively keep up with the growth. This move will help secure our business for future opportunities.”

The distribution centre expansion is the first major initiative of OK Tire’s five-year growth plan. Adding over 500,000 square feet to OK Tire’s network over all regions in Canada, the program is the largest expansion in the company’s 66-year history.

About OK Tire

OK Tire is the largest independent tire and auto service retailer in Canada and the fourth largest in North America. It has been part of the Canadian landscape since 1953. We love the challenge of using new programmatic technology and algorithms to bridge the gap between the seeker and the solution. It’s a creative process that bridges the business development gap for our clients. I’m hoping in the not too distant future there won’t be any such thing as marketing, just ‘direct to sale’. That would make life alot easier for everyone. We have the solution that’s the closest thing to it!”

The OGM network spans over .5 million viewers online and has special print distribution for exhibitions and subscribers. It’s world class presentation puts it in a league unto itself.
HERE’S WHAT OUR CLIENT HAD TO SAY:
“Rounding up students for our CAD training was a real challenge and to be hones, we were getting nowhere. After several months of spending huge sums on traditional advertising, in came Tina Olivero from The OGM who completely revamped our marketing approach. It felt a bit like Gordon Ramsey Boot Camp. But coming out the other side, we began to see real results. The problem flipped to being overwhelmed by responses! The winning formula Tina developed combined targetted social media with sponsored content. In simple terms, our internal team managed the social media messaging which included a link to the OGM article with a call to action. The key her was the combined effects of targeted social media messaging reinforced by the OGM article which was effectively a third-party recommendation. Three months on and we’re still up there on google with a constant stream of inquiries from around the globe. The world is suddenly much smaller!” Gareth Owen – Partner and General Manager, Metroworth & North Atlantic Technical.

Enjoy the ride!

Tina Olivero

Quality management is something that many companies, such as those in the oil and gas industry, construction, and manufacturers consider a top priority. Dan Penney believes that the automotive industry should be no different. Dan is the dealer principal of five car dealerships in the province. In 2014, he made it his goal to certify three divisions of the Penney Automotive Group with an ISO 9001 Quality Certification Standard.

The Quality Management System is used to ensure that vehicles, parts, and services meet both the specified customer requirements and the dealerships’ business objectives in a consistent and reliable manner. The system is based on the requirements of customers as well as applicable International and National Standards.

Julia Penney, Dan’s daughter, is the Group Quality Manager. “We are committed to the development, implementation and continual improvement of our quality management system. We identify resource requirements to ensure the availability of properly trained personnel for all operations that affect the service provision of vehicles, parts, and all activities related to performance of work. I conduct internal audits of every department of every dealership within the scope of our registration to make sure that quality is at the forefront of everything we do” she says.

“Our dedicated staff is committed to delivering exceptional customer service, which in turn helps us give back to the community in a variety of ways” Dan says.

Dan and Julia hope that the future of the automotive industry will be grounded in quality and that customers look for the ISO certification when shopping for a new or used vehicle. “Seeing the ISO logo should be something that makes customers feel a little more relaxed about car shopping. You know that if you’re walking through the door of an ISO certified business, you’re being taken care of by professionals who care about making things better” Julia notes.

Currently, ISO 9001 certification has been achieved for Toyota Plaza, Penney Mazda, Collision Experts, and Penney Kia. The group intends to extend certification across all locations within the Penney Automotive Group.

Julia would like to thank Quality Plus Inc, Terri Andrews, and SAI Global for their help in obtaining the group’s ISO 9001:2008 registration.

What! The latest Bentley costs $300,000? Wait, before you jump right into your excuses, I want you to close your eyes. Imagine yourself, finely dressed (of course), approaching the latest Continental GT V8 S. Being the original person that you are, yours is an electrifying Kingfisher blue; the shade designed specifically for drivers of your standard. You open the door, take a seat on the hand-stitched leather and naturally relax right into its form fitting design. The engine comes to life, but all you hear is a faint sound because strategically, you opted for the revised sporting exhaust system with redesigned silencers. Right before you take off, your hand gently brushes past the piano black veneer and reaches for the 8’’ touchscreen monitor. You make sure your tablet is connected via Bluetooth, you select your favourite playlist and now, you are ready to roll. Today, you decide

to drive on an isolated highway. With a flick of a switch, the top glides down before you even need to blink your eyes. Top down, wind in your hair, your adrenaline kicks in thinking about a top out speed of 308km/h; it’s time to push the limits. Let’s see what this car is made of. Suddenly, the price tag vanishes into thin air, as you just did behind the wheel of the car of your dreams.

Bentley, one of the world’s leading companies in advanced automotive design, has recently uncovered the latest version of one of their finer, more sophisticated models using new and improved innovation. The 2014 Continental GT V8 S is the redesigned Sports Edition that brings muscle enhancement to the model through a higher top speed, tighter suspension, and improved handling. In order to understand Bentley’s determination of consistently evaluating and revamping their stock, it is important to learn about the legend himself: W.O. Bentley. The visionary, a 22-year-old racing rebel, was infatuated by speed and by triumphant victory over the competition. However, he could not seem to match a vehicle to his definition of excellence. And in the year 1919, his phenomenal ambition of “building the car that would satisfy his own extraordinarily high expectations as a driver, as an engineer, as a competitor, and as a gentleman” became the objective behind all Bentley models. The Continental GT V8 S lives up to its mark as a clandestine delivery from the Bentley household.

Let’s begin the tour of the GT V8 S with its most impressive aspect—the engine! Under the hood lies a 4.0 litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine. The machine has an increased capacity of 21hp over the original model, now producing a total of 521hp at 1700rpm. The force created from this colossal engine can generate speed from zero to 60 miles in 4.5 seconds. The cylinders function with variable displacement, and can alternate between four and eight cylinders according to how dominant the vehicle must function. The luxurious model confidently accommodates the driver along with three other adult passengers and has 9.1 cubic feet of cargo room that holds necessities for all occasions.

The exterior frame dons a Beluga gloss body kit, adjusted and lowered in height by 10mm to give the GT V8 S a more sleek and sporty impression of the original. It is offered in a total of seventeen chic shades and carries newly energized 20’’ open-spoke wheels with red painted brake calipers. The vehicle comes equipped with the latest intuitive technology such as rain sensing windscreen wipers and LED signature daylight running lamps. The enhanced sports model also carries new options such as dark tint lamps for the front and rear
lights. Lastly, the signature feature that separates the GT V8 S from its original counterpart would be the four-layer insulated soft-top that folds down in less than twenty-five seconds.

Masterminding the assembly of a Bentley requires one full month of production time. The interior consists of hand-stitched premium leather, carefully selected using seventeen different hides. The stitching is all executed by hand and the contrast stitching of the steering wheel alone is a minimum of thirty hours of work. The piano black veneers are polished using a sand and lacquer process that is repeated eighteen times. The Sports Edition comes with an 8’’ high-resolution touch screen system complete with CD/DVD and SD card slots. The driver can instantly connect with their playlist, which can be heard flawlessly through the Naim for Bentley, fifteen-channel sound system.

The Continental GT V8 S is the latest model to grace the world with its extensive engineering and elaborate design, just as W.O. Bentley would have it. Any driver who spends time merely in its presence, let alone behind the wheel, will easily acknowledge the tremendous justice this vehicle represents in the automotive world. Distinctive Collection, Calgary’s exclusive dealership, and one of the only four in Canada who distribute Bentley, has brought the newest convertible to its showroom. Now, that you can see beyond the price its time to open your eyes and meet the vehicle for yourself. Besides, a test drive can’t be too tempting, or can it?

As human beings, we are able to recognize that as a need deepens and cannot be met, flames of passion ignite to attempt to fill this void for ourselves and others. A skill, an asset, or in this case, a service becomes valuable when we realize the full potential it carries in making our days more meaningful. This was just the case when Gerrard and his wife, Jennifer, were planning their wedding. As the details began to shape into their picture-perfect day, they realized something was missing from the picture: dazzling vintage cars. Conversation sparked, passion was ignited, and the Highland Executive Chauffeur, the first professionally trained chauffeur company, was created three months later.

When established on the foundation of passion, a company will expand and create an aura of awareness because it is dedicated to fulfill the needs of its clientele using above and beyond measures. The business that sprouted in the Canmore and Banff area was recognized by the General Property Manager of Hines, Gordon Menzies, and has now been brought to Calgary, operating out of Eighth Avenue Place. Highland is now the choice of transportation for most corporate clients. And, upon meeting with the CEO Gerrard Connelly, it has become evident why. The company is fueled by their motto “servitio sine compromissum”, service without compromise.

Highland stands apart from other transportation companies in that it is a professionally trained chauffeur company, where chauffeurs require a minimum of 400 hours of training. In fact, there is a vast difference between a chauffeur and a driver, beginning with the multileveled training they receive. During the 400 hours, chauffeurs learn advanced driving skills, executive protection, chauffeur etiquette, attire, customer service, and local and general knowledge. Chauffeurs have a variety of specialized instructors who prepare them to meet a plethora of their clients’ needs, independent from simply driving the vehicle. The Highland philosophy emphasizes the importance of the evolving role of a chauffeur and its ability to adapt to any circumstance. Chauffeurs are adorned in distinguished uniforms that are solely worn in grey and navy blue; solid and empowering colours that represent authority, honesty, and reliability. The company exudes a strict selection process that requires complete dedication and the ability to sacrifice for customer satisfaction. Those appointed are capable of meeting the high standards of requirement and portray an image of professionalism that commands respect through their demeanor. It is the strong character of the chauffeur that stands out among the rest and leaves a lasting impression on the clients.

Highland has carefully thought out an array of services to meet the needs of their clients. Services include, but are not limited to, milestone events such as weddings, graduations, stags/stagettes, and noteworthy parties. Calgarians who are looking to try a new and different approach are encouraged to hire chauffeurs to add a creative element to ideas like a picnic in Banff or a shopping trip. Highland works with six associate companies to ensure that the memorable moment created during each special occasion is maximized and comes together smoothly. Corporate clients can travel with ease using this service to relieve the pressure of airport, hotel, and other business related transportation. The company carries an impressive fleet of vehicles consisting of Cadillac Escalades, BMW 750 Li, Mercedes Sprinter, SUV limousines, and a 1952 Bentley MK VI. The luxury vehicles are fully equipped with adjustable lighting, video calling screens, hardwood flooring, high-end sound, and an in-vehicle iPad to assist with conference calling. Vehicles are kept in pristine condition and are maintained regularly. Through positive profiling, the inside of the vehicles are customized to suit the needs of each individual such as temperature, beverages, and accessories. Chauffeurs are responsible for understanding the comforts required for each client and implementing these needs to create a desirable atmosphere for travel.

Considering the global increase in luxury car sales, critical analysis of the term “luxury” bears new scrutiny.

There’s a blurry stratum lying delicately between the binaries of luxury and life’s essentials. Ponder momentarily the inhabitants of northerly climates, who endure the blinding cold winters; does their choice of seal- or bear-skin coats launch them to the top of Greenpeace’s remonstration list? Or the billionaire tycoon who buys a fleet of corporate jets to secure his tax leverage? While wearing furs and owning planes defines ultimate luxury, a veritable rethink of luxury in our society is befitting in the competitive arena of luxury car sales.

According to a March 2013 survey by McKinsey that took into consideration the growing demand for luxury cars in China and looked at those buying them, more than “60 percent of survey respondents regarded ‘buying a car’ as much a priority as ‘buying an apartment’ and ‘paying for children’s education.’” The survey population included a broad range of global auto manufacturers, executives, and assorted consumer focus groups that attempted to decipher China’s anticipated ability to grow its premium car market by 12 percent annually into 2020 and globally by 16 percent.

According to the survey, these “entry-level” groups (or the “new mainstream”) of car consumers have growing annual incomes and a matching confidence that their incomes will continue to increase (McKinsey, p.7). The notable difference, between these up-and-coming groups versus the regular variety of affluent consumers (the Baby Boomers), is their notice of body style, branding, and image. Whereas the Baby Boomers placed dominance of powertrain technology and vehicle performance as priority features.

Multinationals are the mainstay of China’s economic drivers. Eighty percent of China’s luxury car quota is German-made, along with other Euro, Japanese, and U.S. makers topping up the count. In North America, there’s a mirror of this trend occurring. With changes in technology, increases in higher education achievers, and the injection of both women and successful junior executives participating in the consumerism of autos, the image of what our forefathers once called “luxury cars” is now exhausted.

Mercedes-Benz managed to score a strong overall in Forbes’ Luxury Car Buzz Index, savoring a 17.5 percent increase in sales in the U.S. alone in 2011. They dropped jaws that same year when they launched six new models. Their aim is becoming very obvious—with the gradual waning of luxury car sales to the Baby Boomers comes the new insurgent tide of the Y generation. The “carpe diem” optimism of the newer generation overshadows the practical approach of their parents and their grandparents.

Each brand is competing for the same market space while striving to be unique. For example, BMW’s focus is on the driving experience, while Lexus wants its owner to appreciate the status of brand, and Jaguar seems all about the pleasure trip.

Jaguar Land Rover Automotive, out of Britain, has recently introduced some of the most incredible technology to the global automotive market. Their unique drive selector safely ensures the car cannot accidentally drop out of gear and automatically places the vehicle in park should the driver incur a thoughtless moment. Features such as these are being termed “value added” and easily slide from what once was the luxury category to what technology so happily lends to the market now as safety and, therefore, an essential.

The Jaguar XJ AWD features the Meridian 825 watt surround sound system with 17 speakers and a benchmark concert audio to elevate its riders to experiential decadence. The practicality of the all-wheel-drive and various other added value features, like durable leather and 3.0L V6 diesel engine option, marry well with its price point. Jag has also introduced the XF series that shares the same AWD system with the XJ and maintains its well-known consumer stature, unlike Mercedes when they decided to go Smart.

Forbes’ survey ranked10 leading luxury car brands: Acura, Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Infiniti, Jaguar, Lexus, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo. Comprised of five factors—Brand Satisfaction, Brand Momentum, Personal Promotion, Digital Media, and Traditional Media—they demonstrated how Generation Y has promulgated a new species of practicality where auto sales exist. Making more money means being able to spend more money on items with higher value (and a matching price tag). Additionally, they view their purchases as an investment in their quality of life.

Accordingly, the McKinsley survey attested that motivated Chinese middle class first-time buyers are seeking status by upgrading to premium cars: 30 percent cited “reflection of social status” and 27 percent “self-indulgence” as valid reasons. Additional justifications at the rate of 25 percent each included: “car as a source of fun,” “car as my ‘business card’ for credibility,” “attracted by sophisticated functions and innovative designs,” and “demanding excellent service” (McKinsey, p.6).

As technology enhances our choices and quality of life, the natural tendency is to indulge, provided the affordability factor is in place. Despite an unstable global economy, the confident societal attitudes of emerging professionals worldwide are carving out new strategies. There appears to be an ongoing race of luxury carmakers jockeying to earn top spot on the sales podium.

“My mother was horrified when i purchased a cool orange 1970 Honda cl175 [after] I’d spent the summer working with Ontario Forestry,” recalled Chris Hopkins, Founder, CEO, and Director of Canshale, […]

“My mother was horrified when i purchased a cool orange 1970 Honda cl175 [after] I’d spent the summer working with Ontario Forestry,” recalled Chris Hopkins, Founder, CEO, and Director of Canshale, describing how he began his lifelong love affair with bikes.

It was a pretty little bike. There were other bikes that kind of went in and out of my life quickly,” he explained, listing off nearly a dozen. While he refutes being a cult cyclist, Hopkins does admit that a host of O&G individuals have witnessed his vintage ’68 Norton Mercury encased in glass in his office while he served as president and CEO of Oilsands Quest out of Calgary.

Winsor Harmon, who plays Thorne Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful, shared, in an exclusive interview with The OGM, how being a Ducati owner has changed his life: “I’m changing a lot of things in my life. I’m tired of traffic. I don’t even own a vehicle anymore. My transportation is my Ducati now.”

He has owned his share of Italian cars: Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches, and even a Toyota Prius. Harmon asserts that being a cyclist is a lifestyle choice, not necessarily a matter of affordability.

“If you have to be in L.A. and be in traffic, let’s enjoy it. Instead of taking upwards of an hour [from Toluca Lake to Hollywood], I can get to work in twelve minutes. When I get to work, I have a smile on my face; I’m in a good mood. I’m actually making more friends here now.”

Harmon is one of the growing global populations who take to their motorcycles each day to contest rising gas prices and reduce their carbon footprints. Where large displacement, high-performance bikes are concerned, Hopkins also has strong opinions.

“I don’t know anyone who buys a motorcycle to save money on fuel,” agrees Brent Robertson, the self-proclaimed “Boss” and founder of Canada’s largest custom motorcycle shop, Precision Frameworx.

“High-end bikes will [remain] gas guzzlers,” he states. The rumble and roar is a major enjoyment factor, which Harmon claims “gives me goose bumps” when he starts up his Ducati 848 Streetfighter.

Harmon and Hopkins both share an arduous passion for their Ducatis tending to refer to them using romance-novel terms.

“I fell in love [with my 848 Streetfighter] when I saw it on the showroom floor … it took my breath away … I can even compare it to that of a woman. It’s that beautiful,” says Harmon. While Hopkins just purchased a BMW R1200GS, his 2006 Ducati Multistrada 1000S RS is “[f]ast, light and oooh so Italian—gorgeous!”

While some may be definitive, “many [cyclists] struggle to define or describe what they want and need.” says Robertson, who runs Canada’s only DOT (Department of Transportation) manufacturer, comparing his business to that of a custom-suit tailor.

“My job is to help transform a vision or a fantasy into a reality that fits like a glove … [My] clientele expects to own something different [that] sets them apart.”

Customizing is all about bringing fantasies to life and allowing them to breathe a life of their own once the owner takes control of the wheels. During the initial consultation, key points of discussion revolve around vision and budget. One of Robertson’s 1800 clients is an O&G executive who came to him with a snapshot of a medieval maiden slaying a dragon. From that meeting was born “The Dragon Slayer,” a $60,000 soft-tail bike, which took Robertson and nine full-time staff members about nine months to complete—the average build takes typically two months from concept to the roadway.

While most of the bikes that leave the shop are much less costly, most clients are Harley-Davidson owners who are willing to spend between eight and ten thousand dollars to ramp up their stock Harley. Cheryl Quaife, who is in her fifties, is one of those people. “In North America alone,” says Robertson, “women bike owners have increased by ten percent in a single year.”

Eight years ago when her husband purchased a chopper, and “only a handful of girls” were riding, Cheryl no longer had a back seat to ride on. With an operator’s license under her belt, her husband’s “Fat Boy” underwent a Precision makeover. It took on a new motor, seat, hot-pink paint, and rims, plus a connotation of a female dog emblazoned into the metalwork giving the bike her name, and it has since pulled first place in “The World of Wheels” twice.

Attesting to the beauty and comfort of a complete custom fit, only one customer he knows of has remarketed his bike from the 238 bikes that Brent has manufactured, since the inception of his business in 1999. To make owning a custom bike more affordable, last year Robertson incorporated Thug Motorcycle Company to serve the client who has a budget between twenty and forty thousand dollars.

In cities like Calgary, AB, where economics and weather varies, metric bikes are popular. Metrics are Asian-made bikes whose components are built to meet the standards of the universal metric scale, while existing companies (like Harley-Davidson) still utilize an SAE scale to save on having to change out all their components. Brands such as Suzuki, Aprilia, Kawasaki, and Honda are fine examples, and they can be snapped up anywhere between two to ten thousand dollars.

Take Aprilia’s “Tuorno V4 R APRC” superbike with 167.3 hp at 11,500 rpms and a three-map handlebar selection (sport, road, and track). With a price tag around $15,000, it vies competitively with both Italian- and custom-made bikes. Kawasaki’s “Vulcan 1700 Vaquero” with a four-stroke, V-twin engine and a six-speed overdrive, in either “candy burnt orange/ebony” or “flat black,” will set you back about $20,000.

Scooters are popping up as a commuter favorite, or for those without a specified motorcycle license (or perhaps a revoked one), Suzuki’s “Burgman 650 Executive” boasts a trademarked electronically controlled pulsed-air (PAIR) injection system to aid emissions reductions.

Older drivers and new drivers are popularizing the three-wheelers, like Piaggio’s MP3 250, and tend to reap snickers reminiscent of childhood in their wake as they cruise along roadways. With three wheels and a three-gallon tank, it tops out the commute at 77 mph and a price tag around seven thousand dollars—five grand more than a common two-wheeled scooter!

One cannot argue that motorcycles are kinder to the environment than cars that run on petrol. However, the majority of motorbikes still require gasoline and likely won’t be crossing into the electric lane any time soon. “Italians have a way of building things—romantic, sleek, sexy, and elegant all tied into one. [Ducati] is everything Italian … If Ducati can make a product that is electric and can perform like it does, I’m all over that!” says Harmon who is both “emissions- and recycle-crazy.” Hopkins said he’d pass on any electric bike, but asserts, “If there’s going to be a breakthrough, it’ll likely be in the diesel fuel models.”

Indulging in long scenic tours is a large part of the riding pleasure and a breathtaking way to travel the globe. Cheryl has ridden from Los Angeles to Cave Creek, AZ, and back with a smile on her face. Harmon’s fantasy is to return to Italy, where he modeled in his early years and very recently completed some work on the set of the show. He wants to tour the Ducati factory and purchase the newest 1199 Panigale S (perhaps in red or shiny black—“unless Ducati wants to make a special color for me”), and he wants to rip up their test track before bringing it back to L.A.

In an interview from the airport lounge on a layover enroute to Santiago to join a scheduled tour to Ushuaia, Argentina, from Osorno, Chile, with a friend, Hopkins reminisced about last year’s fantastic ride through the Atacama Desert in Chile to Machu Picchu, Peru: “I try to travel internationally once a year. My dream tour would be to ride from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, and … south, the full length of the Americas to Ushuaia … and back again.”

With snow falling over many parts of the globe this time of year, Hopkins’s remedy for enduring cold winter nights entails surfing the Internet for tools and apparel, planning next year’s tour, and, on occasion, buying a bike.

Hot cars: emerging energy solutions.

The sight of her stirred me in a bizarre new way. Could this be the start of an affair? All eyes were on her. She was stunning, elegant. Silently she beckoned. Irresistibly, I drew nearer. All my prior judgments were quickly melting away. I leaned over to ask another guy in the crowd if he knew her name.

“They call her Tesla.”

Welcome to the new frontier of sexy sustainability. We live in a society whereby technology sustains us, while we embrace lifestyles which include more sustainable technologies. By shifting global oil consumption and minimizing our collective carbon footprint, the world is racing to discover alternative energy solutions.

Electric vehicles (EV), as we have known them, are taking on a flashier form. Both foreign and domestic automakers alike are dazzling the world stage with their innovative electric and hybrid cars. Positioned to reduce emissions and embrace sustainable energy solutions, the dance of the electric sports car is catching on.

Hailing from Silicon Valley, the electric-green Tesla Roadster, with her 115-pound engine, 295 pounds of torque, plus an 80 kilo Watt hour (kWh) battery, is turning heads wherever she goes. The first electric vehicle was introduced pre- Gulf war prior to the oil price spike. By the end of 2012, there will be 5,000 Teslas zooming around.

According to www.teslamotors.com, “petroleum currently fuels 95 percent of the U.S. transportation sector, a sector that demands nearly 28 percent of total energy usage.”

Audi, BMW, Acura and Mercedes are in hot pursuit of the spotlight; all have made a pronounced impact on the sustainability EV buzz. The Mercedes F125! debuted in Frankfurt at the 2011 International Motor Show. Professor Herbert Kohler, who heads up the research and technologies at Daimler, attests that by 2025 this model will be entirely electrically-powered. Kohler states the F125! “(currently) draws its energy from a high-performance, on-board hydrogen fuel cell” located behind the back two seats, which recharges while it drives. Compared to the Tesla, which achieves 245 miles on a full charge from a 220V outlet, the F125! consumes only 7.5 kilograms of hydrogen to cover 660 miles. The BMWi8 Concept is the next step of a combination plug-in hybrid and combined with a modified electric drive system (also in the BMWi3 Concept). It contains a three-cylinder combustion engine, with an electric drive system fitted over the front axle, to produce 354 horse power; the combination fulfills the power of a sports car (0-60 in 5 seconds) with the gas consumption of a small car.

In hot pursuit, Acura from Ohio is tinkering on its next superstar. The Acura NSX Supercar will be out in 2015 with a sport hybrid all-wheel-drive mid-mounted V-6 engine. Hiroshi Takemura, president of Honda R&D Americas, Inc. states, Honda’s “rich history of creating innovative new products for our customers … demonstrates the maturity of our organization … and their ability to create an advanced and innovative supercar.”

Reducing the drain on the power grids with growing solar, wind and hydrogen alternatives is placing North America onto the fast track of renewable energy solutions. We watch television, Skype and complete our banking in the palm of our hand, because it is convenient and efficient. Now we can own provocative sports cars that nurture the environment, are practical and are no longer a fantasy.

The Next Generation is Born

In January of 2011, I had the privilege of attending the opening of the largest state-of-the-art Porsche Center that can be boasted of in the world! Tucked into Musaffah, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, we, as specially invited guests, witnessed the realization of a dream to open a 55 million dirham, 1.8 million (U.S. dollars) facility that was impressive to say the least!

Ahmed Al Dhahry, vice chairman of the Motors Division at Ali & Sons Co. said, “This was an exciting day for us as we moved into our brand new facility and celebrated the arrival of the new 911. The opening of the facility is Porsche Centre, Abu Dhabi’s next step towards achieving customer service excellence. This multimillion dirham facility further reinforces Ali & Sons Company’s commitment to Porsche customers in Abu Dhabi and also marks another major step in strengthening the brand, recognized for its superior quality.”While attending the event and viewing the facility, we were given the full experience of the grandure and level of excellence that went into the architecture of this endeavour. The exclusive gala event was attended by customers and dignitaries, and provided a spectacular show of entertainment and inspiration that ultimately unveiled the highly acclaimed next-generation 911 Carrera and Carrera S Coupé.

The new-generation Porsche 911 Carrera is emerging from one of the biggest developmental steps in the long history of this classic sports car. Almost 90 percent of all components have been redesigned or redeveloped. With its all-new lightweight body, further drivetrain efficiencies and new suspension systems, the Coupé offers the driver improved Porsche Intelligent Performance. This manifests itself in yet further enhanced driving dynamics: up to 16 percent lower fuel consumption and emissions combined with even greater everyday practicality.

The 911 remains Porsche’s iconic sports car, offering a blistering speed of 289 km/hr; it is the first passenger car in the world to feature a sevenspeed manual transmission, and the first sports car equipped with an auto start/stop function, electro-mechanical power steering and a new “coasting function,” in vehicles equipped with the Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK). The new electro-mechanical power steering offers even better precision and response, while increasing efficiency and reducing general fuel consumption.

The athletic 350 hp 3.4-litre boxer engine consumes a mere 8.2 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers; that’s 16 percent less than its predecessor. And, with an emission level of 194 g/km CO2, it is the first Porsche sports car to make it below the 200 g/km mark.

At 48, the design of the Porsche 911 Carrera is younger than ever: the all-new generation of this sports car icon is stepping into the limelight with its fl at, stretched silhouette, exciting contours, sharply contoured edges and precisely designed details, yet from the very first glance, it remains unmistakably a 911 Carrera. The exterior has been completely redesigned—not a single line or radius has been left unchanged. What remains is the enthralling appeal: true to the 911 Carrera tradition, the distinctive Porsche design language with its tendons and muscles exudes power and elegance.

The new 911 Carrera design derives from the altered proportions of the sports car. The 100 millimeters longer wheelbase, wider front track and reduced height combined with the up to 20-inch wheels were an outstanding starting point for designing a new Coupé with even more athletic fl air. From this starting point, Porsche’s designers have developed a new 911 Carrera shape with an ideal height-to-width ratio. Without altering the overall width, they have created a sports car with an even more solid stance on the road.

Congratulations Porsche Centre Mussafah and Ali & Sons of Abu Dhabi! We like your style!

Test drive it here!

The most expensive car in the world – Bugatti Veyron $1,700,000

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is the most powerful, most expensive, and fastest street-legal production car in the world, with a proven top speed of over 400 km/h (407 km/h or 253 mph). It reached full production in September 2005. The car is built by Volkswagen AG subsidiary Bugatti Automobiles SAS and is sold under the legendary Bugatti marque. It is named after racing driver Pierre Veyron, who won the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1939 while racing for the original Bugatti firm. The Veyron features a W16 engine—16 cylinders in 4 banks of 4 cylinders.

Koenigsegg CCX: 245 mph, 0-60 in 3.2 secs. 90 Degree V8 Engine 806 hp. The base price is $545,568. Made in Sweden, it is aiming hard to be the fastest car in the world, but it has a long way to go to surpass the Bugatti and the Ultimate Aero.

McLaren F1: 240 mph, 0-60 in 3.2 secs. BMW S70/2 60 Degree V12 Engine with 627 hp. The base price is $970,000. Check out the doors, for they look like bat wings. Maybe Batman needs to order one and paint it black

Ferrari Enzo: 217 mph, 0-60 in 3.4 secs. F140 Aluminum V12 Engine with 660 hp. The base price is $670,000. Only 399 ever produced, the price goes up every time someone crashes.

Jaguar XJ220: 217 mph, 0-60 in 3.8 secs. Twin Turbo V6 Engine with 542 hp. The base price was $650,000. Made in 1992, this car still got what it takes to make the list.

Pagani Zonda F: 215 mph, 0-60 in 3.5 secs. Mercedes Benz M180 V12 Engine with 650 hp. The base price is $667,321. With a V12 motor, this baby can do much better

Lamborghini Murcielago LP640: 211 mph, 0-60 in 3.3 secs. V12 Engine with 640 hp. The base price is $430,000. Nice piece of art, and the design is very round and smooth.

The most expensive license plate in the world

The only all-electric vehicle (EV) for sale today is from the valley’s Tesla Motors, and Palo Alto-based Better Place is creating infrastructure for mass adoption of Electric Vehicles, including building “charge spots.” Pictured below is the $109,000 Tesla Roadster that is powered by a 400-volt battery pack and runs at least 200 miles before it needs to be plugged in for a recharge.
