In a historic move, Premier Andrew Furey of Newfoundland and Labrador has accepted a new energy contract with Quebec, marking a significant shift in the province’s energy landscape. The agreement, which involves the Churchill Falls hydroelectric plant and the development of Gull Island, will see Quebec pay 30 times more for electricity, securing over $1 billion annually for Newfoundland and Labrador. The deal promises to expand energy capacity, create jobs, and contribute to the province’s economic growth while strengthening energy ties between Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador. This win-win opportunity sets the stage for future renewable energy projects and long-term collaboration.
