Laura: Sustainability means being responsible and taking care of all aspects of our environment and our natural resources to ensure that the future have the same advantages. It is also to continue diversifying ourselves in order to grow our businesses and provide better services to our clients and the industry.
Laura: Yes, I’ve definitely been fortunate to have many mentors. From a young age, I have witnessed my parent’s strong work ethic, commitment and determination in their careers all while balancing three busy children. They are all traits and balance I continuously strive to achieve in my career.
My current manager is always there to provide guidance and support as I learn to carve my path and future in the family business. She is a great tool of support, outside the family, that keeps me motivated and focused on the task at hand, all while pushing me outside of my comfort zone to allow me to grow and be successful. I feel that I have grown more in the last two years under her supervision than in my whole career.
Laura: Success is measured by happiness and motivation, it’s by having that feeling of accomplishment when you have really pushed yourself past your boundaries and succeeded.
Laura: Challenging, Diverse and Exciting
Laura: If you are looking for an exciting, evolving career than this is the industry for you but it will take starting from the bottom and working hard and professionally to work your way up and achieve success.
Laura: The decision to move home and begin working in the family business, it was earlier than originally anticipated but I would never change it for the world.
Laura: I would say gaining the courage to bring forward ideas and being confident in the decisions I make was especially challenging when I began in the family business.
Laura: Technology impacts every aspect of my career. It drives how we communicate, gain access to information and how we can evolve the services we offer our clients to become more efficient service providers.
Laura: Exciting! With the many large projects happening in Newfoundland, I am excited to see where they could take the companies and how we might be a part of it. Also, we will soon be moving out of the building my grandfather ran the businesses from since the 1960’s and into a new, modern building on the east end of town. It’s been exciting to be a part of the change and evolution of the companies.
Laura: I always knew that once I gained experience in the working world I would move home and work in the family business. I have always been interested and fascinated by the many opportunities the energy industry has to offer.
Laura: It’s exciting and always evolving. There is always something new to learn and grow from. It has and will continue to offer Newfoundland much prosperity and opportunity.
Laura: I would have to say my family (the 4th generation), in general. It’s inspiring to see where they have taken the businesses since they began managing the companies in 1991 after my Grandfather, Andrew Crosbie, passed away. Their entrepreneurial drive and determination is inspiring and my whole life they have demonstrated that little is achieved without hard work and sacrifice.
Laura: Energy is everywhere – it’s used in all aspects of our life. It fuel’s our province.
Laura: I use many apps on my phone – all social media ones, many news apps and the real estate app! I usually browse through these daily to keep current.
Laura: The Millennial Generation is known as being the most educated and technologically advanced group, thus far. They have largely grown up with technology and will bring forward many new and exciting innovations to the Energy industry. They will help us to continue to evolve the industry.
Laura: I think it’s a great tool to stay connected with family, friends and business associates across the world. It has definitely brought everyone closer in connection while separated by distance. It has definitely changed the world in which we live.
Laura: I definitely dabble in all of them, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.
Laura: Yes, I use LinkedIn personally and we have a company page for connecting with industry professionals, colleagues and clients.
Laura: It’s great! It allows you to reach a much wider pool of qualified applicants, which in the labour shortages for our industry is hugely important.
Laura: I love what I do because of the passion I feel while doing it. I have always had passion to work hard, be successful and strive for more but since I have started working in the family business there is a whole new level of passion I have discovered. It took me by surprise when I first started working here. Our companies are involved in four of Newfoundland’s exciting and evolving industries and every day there is something new and exciting to learn – no day is the same.
